Trudy Bell France Baker, 90, of 2905 Spencer Preston Road, Martinsville, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at her home.

A native of Henry County, she was born July 12, 1912, a daughter of the late John E. France and the late Mariah Sheffield France. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Baker; four infants, a son, Billy C. Baker; two brothers, Joseph France and John Willie France; three sisters, Adrene France, Alice Hairston, and Fannie Smith.

She was a chef for a U.S. Army hospital in Washington, D.C., a member of the AAUW, and member of Mt. Olive East Christian Church.

Surviving are three sons, Frank E. Baker, of the home, Henry H. Baker and Jerome A. Baker, both of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, James France and Frederick France, both of Martinsville; two sisters, Betty Ruth Hairston, and Evelyn Jones, both of Martinsville; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olive East Christian Church, with Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from noon to 1 p.m. at the church, and other times at the home on 2905 Spencer Preston Road, Martinsville.

Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home, Martinsville, is handling arrangements.
