Elizabeth Frakes was a member of a family that migrated from Virginia via Tennessee to the Missouri Territory soon after the Louisiana Purchase opened up homesteading in that unsettled part of the country. In Missouri, she met a young widower from Cocke County, Tenn., Abraham Allen, who was visiting relatives.

Elizabeth and Abraham married and returned to Cocke County around 1825 to start their family, his second. Around 1840, they moved back to Missouri. Abraham died in 1844.

Elizabeth married John Cummons in 1847. They had a daughter, Sarah. Elizabeth died in 1861.
