FUNERAL RITES HELD TUESDAY FOR CHARLES P. FOX

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the First Ward Chapel for Charles Patten Fox, 72, prominent Vernal resident since 1908, who died Saturday in the Salt Lake hospital of a heart ailment.

Speakers at the funeral were William H. Siddoway, Jesse A. Haws and Archie Johnson.

Mr. Fox was born September 27, 1874, a son of Johnson and Sophronia Fox, in Clay County, Atkansas. As a youth, he moved with the family into Indian territory of Oklahoma and later moved into the Baggs, Wyoming area where he engaged in the sheep businss for a number of years.

He came to Vernal in 1906 where he met Mary Caroline Moore, whom he married in 1907.

Mr. Fox was a prominent local merchant, having been a butcher and grocer during his early years here. Recently he was employed at the Vernal Furniture Exchange. During the war years Mr. Fox was employed in the Kaiser shipyards at Oakland, California.

He joined the LDS church in 1915, at the age of 40, and was active in stake missionary work as well as Sunday School and welfare work up until the time of his death.

He leaves, in addition to his wife, four sons and two daughters, Laurence Fox, Vernal; Morrill J. Lowell and Leland Fox and Mrs. May Reece, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Alta Andreason, Roosevelt. He also leaves three sisters, five half brothers and 18 grandchildren.

Music for the funeral services was presented by a double mixed quartet comprising George Roth, Chellus Caldwell, George Davis, John Koller, John Jorgenson, Mrs. Joseph A. Parent, Mrs. Wallace Calder and Mrs. Ernest Caldwell and solos by George Davis and Mrs. Alice M. Fox.

The quartet sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and "Oh My Father." Mrs. Fox sang "Face to Face" and Mr. Davis sang "Goin Home." Mrs. John Stagg was accompanist.

Invocation was by J. Edwin Collier and the benediction was pronounced by Wallace Calder. Burial was at Vernal Memorial Park with William H. Howard dedicating the grave. Bishop Wm. B. Wallis was in charge of the service.

Charles Patten Fox was born to Sophronia Lucy Johns and Johnson Monroe Fox. Charles was married to Mary Caroline Moore on February 20, 1907 in Vernal, Uintah, Utah.
