Alene F. Boyd
Alene F. Boyd, 78, died Feb. 10 at home.
She was born in Savannah and attended Georgia State College for Women, where she was editor of the student handbook and on the intercollegiate debating team. She graduated from the University of Georgia with an A.B. in Journalism. She wrote advertising for Leopold Adler Co. and later for Maison-Blanche Department Store in New Orleans.
She received a M.S.W. degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
She was a casework supervisor and later an adoption supervisor for Bethesda-Savannah Children's Center. She was chief social worker, Macon Duty Station at the Veterans Administration regional office in Atlanta for 49 counties of southwest Georgia. She retired as a clinical social worker at the Dublin Veterans Affairs Center.
She was a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Conference on Social Welfare. She was a member of the Altrusa Club of Savannah, the Bonaventure Chapter of DAR and a communicant of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church.
SURVIVORS: a sister and brother-in-law, Iris F. and Chester Hutchins of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Maxine S. Fountain of Savannah; an aunt, Virginia Fountain of Savannah; a niece, several nephews and cousins.
VISITATION: 2-3 p.m. Friday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 3:30 p.m. Friday in Bonaventure Cemetery.
REMEMBRANCES: Savannah Humane Society.
