Pacific Grove - Marjorie Ayres (Marge) was born on June 26, 1933 in San Francisco. The daughter of Anthony and Anne Foster, she came to Castroville at the age of six months.

Marjorie married Tony Ayres in January 1950. They have resided in the family home for over 60 years. Her most satisfying role was that of mother and full time homemaker. She was a second Mom to many of her children's friends.

Marjorie graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Salinas and attended Moreland Notre Dame in Watsonville. She was a member of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church during her life in Pacific Grove and was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and the Blessed Mother Mary.

Marge was a long-time member of Our Lady of Fatima Society and the Festa de Espirito Santo of Monterey. She was also a charter member of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and a life member and past officer of the Womens Auxiliary, General Joseph Stillwell, Disabled American Veterans of the Monterey Peninsula as well as a member of Pacific Grove Heritage Society. Marjorie and Tony donated to the city parks and civic organizations in many ways, including the flagpole at the Pacific Grove Lighthouse.

Marjorie is survived by Tony, her husband of 61 years; her children, Ramon Anthony "Ray" Ayres of Pacific Grove, Rosann Carla Lopes of Grayland on Grays Harbor, Washington State and Laurie Jessica Snaith of Sydney, Australia; her two sons-in-law, Bill Lopes and Roger Snaith and step-grandson, Dr. Ryan and his wife, Verity Snaith.

Marjorie succumbed to an illness which she fought for a very long time. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family and a close friend, Christine Bava. Although Marjorie will be greatly missed by her family and friends, her memory will live on.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church this Thursday, Dec 2 at 11AM followed by burial at El Carmelo Cemetery. After the burial service, friends are invited to lunch at St. Angela Merici Parish Hall at 1PM. Tony and Marjorie have established an endowment that is managed by the Community Foundation for Monterey County. The Community Foundation generates revenue perpetually for the Kinship Center and Visiting Nurses Association (VNA).

In memory of Marge, if you wish to contribute to the Community Foundation please send your donation to 22354 Garden Road, Monterey, CA 93940 or your charity of choice. Published in The Monterey Herald on November 30, 2010
