Mrs. Ada Elaine Foster Bracken, of 823 Moore Street, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, at Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Long serving as Eulogist. Burial will be at Greenview Cemetery.
She was born in Reidsville, North Carolina, to the Holy Union of Mr. John H. Foster and Alice J. Foster. At an early age, Mrs. Bracken joined Zion Baptist Church, where she served in Sunday School, Youth Choir, and the Missionary Circle. She also served faithfully as the church clerk for many years.
Mrs. Bracken attended the public schools of Reidsville, N.C. and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1952. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree at North Carolina Central College in Durham, N.C.
After working in Washington, D.C. for several years, she returned to North Carolina where she taught school in Onslow County. Mrs. Bracken taught in Rockingham County at Charles Drew High School in Madison, N.C., and at Reidsville Senior High School until her retirement.
Mrs. Bracken served on the Board of Elections for many years. She was also a member of the Beauty of Reidsville, Chapter #477, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Home Beautiful Club, and the Sunset Community Flower Club. Additionally, Mrs. Bracken was a member of the Rockingham County Teachers' Association and a member of the North Carolina Retired School Personnel.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 30 years, James T. Bracken, of the home; two children, born from a previous marriage, Franklin M. Robinson and wife, Katrina, of Randalltown, Md., and Lori C. Robinson, of Laurel, Md.; one grandson, Gibran Wiggins, of Laurel, Md.; one nephew, Albert Foster (Angela), of Clarksville, Tenn.; one aunt, Lula Foster, of Reidsville, N.C.; stepchildren, Phyllis Wells (William), of Reidsville, N.C., Marion Sutton (Carnell), of Tega Cay, S.C., Rev. David Bracken (Jacqueline), of Reidsville, N.C., Melissa Haywood, of High Point, N.C.; step-grandchildren, Sean Lawson, Jr., of Tega Cay, S.C., and Jordan Comer of Reidsville, N.C.; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
