LITCHFIELD --- Mary Belle Buckmore, 101, of the Hallowell-Litchfield Road, died February 1, 1987, at her home
She was born in South Brewer, January 26, 1886, the daughter of Levi and Elluia (Fornier) Foster.
The oldest Gold Star Mother in New England, Mrs. Buckmore was a past president of the Gardiner Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers and Smith-Wiley Post, American Legion Auxiliary and was past master of the South Gardiner Grange
Her husband, Luther Buckmore, died February 22, 1964.
She is survived by her three sons, Harry Buckmore of Augusta, Arthur Buckmore of Litchfield and Stanley Buckmore of Gardiner; four daughters, Frances Rafford of Brooklyn, N.Y., Nellie Fortaine of Augusta, Vina Danforth of Litchfield and Florence Hannon of Farmingdale; and two sisters, Nora Ayer of Pittston and Beatrice McCollett of Gardiner; 28 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren, and several, nieces, nephews and cousins..
Friends may call at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner, Wednesday at 10 a. m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Buckmore Scholarship Fund, Smith-Wiley Post, American Legion, Griffin Street, Gardiner 04345. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral home.
