BREWER - Edith F Avery, 98, wife of the late Byron Avery, died, Jan 12, 2012, at a Brewer health center after a brief illness. She was born Sep 13, 1913, in Calais, the daughter of Harry G and Edith C (Cox) Foster.
Edith was active in the community. She was a founding member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, Brewer and was a supporter and volunteer with her friend Anne Piper, of Brewer Christian Food Cupboard. She was a member of Eddington Historical Society and Order of the Eastern Star, Loyal Chapter. Edith enjoyed baseball having been active in Brewer Little League and Babe Ruth League during the Harry Dalton era and she was "diehard" believer in the Red Sox, acquired from her father and her admiration for the "Splendid Splinter". Edith was patriotic and was a longtime supporter of Veterans of Foreign Wars and all that served.
Surving are her three children, Byron Jr. of Vermont, John of Cape Cod and Edward of Brewer; grandchildren, Rebecca, Betty-Jo, John II, Brian, Holli, Justin and Jaclyn; great grandchildren, Craig, Rachel, Christopher, Sarah, Danny, Alec, Nicole and Victoria; great great-granchildren, Mason and Colin; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edith's family expresses their gratitude to her faithful friends who visited weekly and is appreciative of St. Patrick's Christmas carolers and home service communion providers. They alswo thank the loyal neighbors who assisted her enabling her to stay at home throughout the years.
Burial will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
