Winter Garden's Marion Ausmus thrived on giving back to others
May 31, 2007|By Joseph Rassel, Sentinel Staff Writer
As a longtime hospital volunteer, Marion "Elaine" Ausmus helped thousands of hospital guests, managed a gift shop, assisted with fundraisers and worked on a surgical floor.
Friends said she was devoted, dependable and always did for others.
In more than 30 years as a volunteer at West Orange Hospital in Winter Garden and then Health Central in Ocoee, Ausmus logged more than 18,000 hours of service.
Ausmus, of Winter Garden, died Friday. She was 81.
"Her life was to give back. She had the time, and rather than doing only for herself, she did for others," said Paulina Wolfe, director of volunteer services for Health Central. "She was supposed to work a four-hour shift, but she would stay for six or eight because the need was there. I would love to have 50 more like her."
