Clifford D. Foster, 93, a lifelong Paxton farmer, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Christian Life Church, Rantoul, Illinois, with Pastor Barry Hinkle and Pastor John Bonacorsi officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cemetery, Paxton, with Military Funeral Honors.

Cliff was born February 4, 1921, in rural Paxton, a son of Orville Wolfe and Grace Catherine Scott Foster. He married Marjorie Idella Jones on February 22, 1947. She preceded him in death on November 6, 1983. He married Sharon Darlene Behrends on March 16, 1985. She survives.

In addition to this wife, Sharon, he is survived by a daughter, Janice (Rick) Rusk of Tolono and a son, Stan (Barbara) Foster of Paxton; four grandchildren, Daniel (Tonya) Hartman of Tolono, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Foster of Paxton, Jennifer (Justin) Overstreet of St. Joseph, Danielle Hartman Osmundson; eight great grandchildren, Alyssa and Brooke Hartman, Mckenzy and Lucy Foster, Colton and Ava Overstreet, Sandy and Kyle Cundiff; a sister, Doris Ehmen of Paxton and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Zackary Hartman and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Cliff grew up and lived on the farm at Ten Mile Grove his entire life. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific, India, Chittagong, Bengal and Burma and flew over the Himalayas. He was a member of the 4th Combat Carrier and Military Police. He received two combat bronze battle stars.

He attended the Christian Life Church, Rantoul and was very passionate about Christianity and the reverence of people’s souls. He was a member of the Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150, the Paxton V.F.W. Post 4214 and the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau. Cliff’s hobbies included antique lamps, clocks and watches. He was an avid pilot belonging to the “Flying Farmer” group and for many years had his own plane and airstrip on his farm.
