Mrs. Alyce C. Foster:
A native of Why Nott, MS, a former resident of York, AL and Detroit, MI for more than 65 years and a resident of Mobile for two years died Friday, September 29, 2000 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Frank Foster. Mrs. Foster confessed Christ at an early age and was an active member of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist church in Detroit. She served as a teacher and a superintendent of the Sunday School, a church youth director, president of the Missionary Society and was a leader of area Four Metropolitan Missionary Baptist District Women's Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Alabama State College (now University) and taught school in York, before moving to Detroit where she was an educator in the Wayne County Public School System and at the Juvenile Detention Center for the city of Detroit before retiring. Mrs. Foster leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted brother and sister-in-law, Deacon James M. and Mrs. Carrie Ruffin; two sisters, Pearl Martin of Mobile County and Beatrice McDaniel of Detroit; two foster daughters, Shirley Young of Detroit and Beverly Ross of Tennessee; two foster grandchildren, Darnita and Claudell Ross both of Detroit; four nieces, Mary Alice Ruffin of York, Faye Davis of Rochester, NY, Rochelle Powell and Vickie Clifton both of Dallas, TX; two nephews, Glendon Ruffin of Georgia and James Ruffin, Jr. of San Diego, CA; a devoted cousin, Martha Donoho of Detroit; two sisters-in-law, Merlean Ruffin of Bessemer, AL and Mildred Ruffin of Detroit; a loving caregiver, Wilma Miller, many other relatives and friends in Mobile and Detroit, especially the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Family. Visitation will be at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, 451 Weinacker Ave on Thursday, October 5, 2000 from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral hour with Dr. Alvin A. Cleveland, Pastor and officiating minister. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to HODGES FUNERAL CHAPEL, L.L.C., 701 Dr. M. L. King Jr. Ave, Mobile, AL.
