Carrie Leona Foster Byrd, 87, of Elgin, passed away April 25, 2007, at her home. Born in Scott County, March 15, 1920, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha Garrett Foster; her husband, General (Buddy) Byrd; four sons: William Preston Moore, and Wiley, Leon, and Jimmie Byrd; one daughter, Mary Jane Moore; grandson, Richard Simpson; great-grandson, Jacob Hensley; four brothers: Dave, Lonnie, John, and Ray Foster; three sisters: Mae Welch, Gladys Brewster, and Anna Dick; and son-in-law, T. D. Hensley.

She was a member of Concord Baptist Church; and loved everyone and enjoyed working in her yard and flower garden. She is survived by two sons: Earl Moore and wife, Rose, of Helenwood, and Ken Byrd and wife, Margarete, of Myrtle Beach, SC; four daughters: Ruth and Ruble Simpson of Somerset, Ky., Faye Hensley of Knoxville, Joyce and Don Bailey of Elgin, and Beulah and Paul Newport of Lewisburg, Ohio; two daughters-in-law, Kitty Byrd of Oneida, and Rosalee Byrd of Helenwood; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, three brothers: Jay Foster, and Dennis Foster, both of Robbins, and Carl Foster of Knoxville; two sisters: Ester Shepard of Robbins, and Shirley Simpson of Dayton, Ohio; special sister-in-law, Elsie Foster of Cleveland, Ohio; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted April 28, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Norris and Rev. Jack Welch officiating. Music was provided by Jenny Newkirk and Tera Newport.
