I met Mike in High School in Garden Grove ,CA. We were neighbors & friends. In 1963 Mike & I enlisted in the Marine Corps for a 3 yr tour (on the buddy system) We went through boot camp together at San Diego MCRD and were assigned different duty assignments from there. Mike became a Tanker. In 1965 we both went to Vietnam and finally crossed paths again. We both made it out alive and came home in 1966. Mike & I hung out together for the next year, trying to find our niche. Mike worked as a mechanic, what he was good at, but never really adapted to civilian life. He reenlisted in the Marine Corps some time in 1967-68. We exchanged letters & some pictures. Mike was assigned to a Tank retriever, something like a heavy duty tow truck for Tanks. The story has it that he was ambushed during a retrieval operation and was killed in action. In 1974 I named my second born son after the friend I lost.
