Dale E. Fossnock, 87, of Delphi, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Delphi.

Born Dec. 1, 1921, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Edward James and Dora Mabel Stong Swartz Fossnock. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1939, and served in the Army during World War II.

On Sept. 29, 1946, he married Maynelle Mills in Mulberry, and she survives.

Mr. Fossnock was a lifelong farmer.

He was a former member of the Pyrmont United Methodist Church, where he served as a song leader and Sunday school teacher. He served eight years on the Delphi Community School Board, and served as president during the building of the new high school. He also served as a 4-H leader.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Kevin Dale Fossnock of Delphi; a daughter, Pamela Sue Smith (husband: Ronald) of Westerville, Ohio; and a sister, Marian Smith of Rossville.

Also survivingare 3 grandchildren, Melinda Ridley (husband: David), Maj. Michael Smith (wife: Kelly) and Suzanne Thompson (husband: Jeff); and 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Meagan, Melanie and Reid Ridley, Faith, Elijiah, Isaiah, Sarah and Micah Smith, and Logan Thompson. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Evelyn Hufford Glenn. Dale passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, with services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Bodine Funeral Home, Rossville, Ed Selvidge officiating. Interment at Pyrmont Cemetery with military burial rites.
