Esther Matilda Foss Deilke

Esther Mathilda (Foss) Deilke was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Wausau to Waldemar and Ada (Ash) Foss. She grew up in Eau Claire and lived there until her retirement in 1987, when she moved to Dodge Center, Minn. In 2005, Esther moved to Columbus, Ga., to live with her sister. In 2006, they moved to Seale, Ala. Married George H. Deilke in 1951. Her hobbies included reading, horseback riding, golf, dogs, knitting, traveling and wood carving. Esther dearly loved her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and her many pets. Esther graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a teaching degree, and taught in central Wisconsin for many years. In the 1960s, she obtained a master's degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and worked for many years as a school librarian in the Eau Claire School System.
Esther died at home on April 19, 2009.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy; and her husband, George, who passed away on Sept. 11, 1973.
Survived by a daughter, Lea (Paul) Eldred of Antalya, Turkey; a sister, Arlie Alcott of Seale, Ala.; grandchildren, Sarah Eldred of Rochester, Minn., Aaron Eldred of Waseca, Minn., and Gerald (Rachael) Eldred of Menomonie.
A private memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her home in Seale, Ala., officiated by Pastor Tom Poole.
Local memorial services will be held in Chippewa Falls at Christ Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Mark Homp, at a day and time to be announced.

Arrangements are being handled by Vance Memorial Chapel, 3738 Highway 431, North Phenix City, AL 36867.
A memorial service for Esther Deilke will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Assembly of God in Bloomer. Family and friends are welcome. Published 5-14-2009
