Grace was the second of four children born to William Edgar and Cora Amanda (Poplin) Fortner. She married Spencer Adam Dennis.

CONCORD - Mrs. Grace Fortner Dennis, 88, of St. Andrews Living Center passed away Wednesday morning at CMC-North East Medical Center. Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wilkinson Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Tom Anderson. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Grace was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Concord to the late William Edgar Fortner and Cora Amanda Poplin Fortner. She was valedictorian of the Class of 1937 at Harrisburg High School. Grace had been an active member of First Baptist Church where she served with the Women's Missionary Union and the Brownie Scouts. To the end of her life, she stayed in touch with her church people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer A. Dennis and her sister, Edith F. Beaver. Grace is survived by brother, Dwight H. Fortner and sister, Edna F. Starnes, both of Concord; nephews, Dwight Fortner, Jr., Tony Starnes, Terry Starnes and Carl "Buddy" Beaver, Jr.; great nieces and nephews, Megan, Cody, and Kitt Starnes, Jan F. Lam, Paul and Blake Fortner, Jennifer and Carrie Beaver. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 Branchview Dr. SE, Concord, NC 28025.
