Jean graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1939, where she was a twirler for the band. She then attended Southwest Missouri Teacher's College, where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
Jean, along with her husband, John were charter members of Twin Oaks Country Club and National Avenue Christian Church. She had been active in The Sorrell Club, art groups and garden clubs throughout her life.
She is survived by a son, John Gary Atwill (Jimmie); a daughter, Donna Richards (David); three grandsons, John "Jey" Atwill, Dustin D. Richards and Drew T. Richards; one granddaughter, Catherine "Tori" Sallee (Tim); four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Ian Atwill and Anna and Rachel Sallee.
A private family burial at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery.
