Mrs Mary Bradford, who died in Conway, Feb 28, was born in Hawley, May 12, 1812. She was the fourth of eight children of Elias and Sophia Ford, who were among the early settlers on West Hill in that town, and was the last survivor of the family. Dec. 6, 1832, she married Subael Bradford of Conway, with who she lived over 56 years, and a more harmonious union could scarcely be found. For 54 years their home has been on the Bradford homestead, in the south part of Conway. In 1882 their golden wedding was celebrated in a very elaborate manner. "Uncle Shubael" and "Aunt Polly" have long been household names for a wide region. Here they have reared six children, five of whom, with the father, survive. The family has been a model of industry, sobriety and temperance, ready for any good word or work, and alive to the reforms of the day. In life or death, sickness or health, prosperity or adversity, the family has ever been ready to lend a helping hand. It is no wonder that the family of the deceased rise up and call her blessed. Mrs Bradford's maternal ancestry are from a very fine extraction. She was a descendant, of the fourth generation, of Gain Robinson, a clergyman who came from Scotland early in the 18th century and settled in Duxbury, whose children afterward came to Western Massachusetts, and their families have been large and numerous and generally noted for their sterling qualities. The remains of Mrs Robinson's great-grandfather, James Robinson, lie in the cemetery in Cummington. His generation were of Revolutionary fame. "Thus passes away in the glory of the world." W.G.A. [published March 30, 1889 Gazette & Courier, Greenfield Mass, pg 2]
