Son of John W. Force Dies in Norfolk Hospital
Lieutenant James Sargent Force, U. S. M., of the battleship Georgia, died Friday night in the naval hospital at Norfolk, Va. Death was the result of injuries received earlier in the day, through the collapse of a boom aboard ship. No details of the accident have been obtained, but it is believed the young officer's head was crushed. The accident occurred off Old Point Comfort where the Georgia was stationed temporarily.
Lieutenant Force was the only son [and only child] of Mr. and Mrs. John W. [and Josephine] Force, of East avenue, Brighton, and a grandson of the late James Sargent. He was graduated from Annapolis with the class of 1910, and in his five years of active service had won a reputation as the best turret officer in the Atlantic fleet. He was only 27 years old.
John W. Force left for Norfolk on Friday night, and will bring the body to Rochester.

NORFOLK, Va., Sunday.—While superintending the loading of coal on board the United States battle ship Georgia from a naval coaling vessel in Hampton Roads yesterday afternoon, Lieutenant Sargent Force, twenty-seven years old, son of John W. Force, of Rochester, N.Y., suffered injuries that caused his death. The heavy boom which lowered the baskets of coal into the vessel broke, falling upon Lieutenant Force's head. He died seven hours later, without having regained consciousness.
