Alma Foley, 78, died Saturday at her home in Kelliher.
Alma Paras was born April 18, 1903, at Brooks where she attended grade school. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy at Crookston and from the teachers college at Bemidji. She taught school seven years and married William Foley June 4, 1928.
The couple resided one year at Hocuiam, WA., two years at Duluth, and in 1931 moved to Kelliher. She was active in church work, serving as president of St. Patrick's Guild, Kelliher, held other offices, taught classes in Catholic doctrine and did altar linens for many years; was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since her marriage and held most offices including president for at least eight years and secretary for 15 years; served as secretary-treasurer for the Sixth District American Legion Auxiliary; was president for two years and trustee for three years with the Bemidji World War I Auxiliary and held various chairmanships; past president of the 11th District Ladies' Auxiliary of World War I; helped with innoculation and vaccination at Kelliher School and helped people sign up for rationing and draft during World War II; was affilitated with March of Dimes, Heart Fund, and Poppy Days; and was named the Senior Citizen Merit Mother for Beltrami County in 1965.
Mrs. Foley is survived by her husband; six sons, William, Glastonbury, CT., the Rev. Fr. Gerald Foley, Moorehead, Larry, Wadena, Raymond, Corona, CA., Michael, Melrose, and Alan, Floodwood; three daughters Mary (Mrs. John) Kennedy, Minneapolis, Patricia, (Mrs. John) Ruffing, Brooklyn Park, and Beverly (Mrs. Alan) Vanlon, Rapid City, S.D.; a brother Raymond Parras, Red Lake Falls; three sisters, Nellie Hallas, St. Paul, Ross Wall, Seattle, WA., and Florence Lang, Minneapolis; and 36 grandchildren.
