Gene Foland, 91, of Fullerton died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Gene was born July 1, 1920, at Belgrade to John Henry Terry and Pearl (Bigley) Foland.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, on May 28, 2005; and daughters, Linda Foland and Nila Nelson.

Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Pam Foland of Thornton, Colo., Darrel Foland of Wilmington, N.C., and David and Diane Foland of Fort Collins, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Foland of Kansas City, Kan.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gene grew up in Belgrade and attended Belgrade Schools. He graduated from Belgrade High School.

On Oct. 22, 1941, he married Helen Whited at Fullerton. They farmed in the area until 1960 when they moved to Newman Grove, where they ran a hardware store until 1969. He then worked for several years at Farmers Coop and the town of Newman Grove. The couple moved to the Fullerton and Belgrade area in 1990.

Gene resided at Valley View Assisted Living for the past two-and-half years.

Gene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fullerton. He enjoyed traveling.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jamie Nelson; brother, Russell Foland; and sisters, Ida Ostrander, Velma Ostrander, Edna Bourn, Rachel Ostrander, Lois Owen, June Underwood, Inez Bourn, Mazie Stevens.

Burial was in the Belgrade Main Cemetery, Belgrade, NE.
