Sudden Death
Of Braxton Foist, Aged Citizen Of Redding Township.
Braxton Foist, one of Jackson County’s well known and prosperous farmers, died suddenly last Friday evening at his home in Redding township, aged 80 years and 6 days.
Although he was in declining health, owing to his advanced age, yet he was able to be about and work, and on the day of his death he had worked about the farm all day. At supper time he complained of being tired and of a pain about his heart. He sat down in the kitchen while his wife was getting supper and was seated only a short time when he fell over against the stove, cutting a gash over his left eye. Mrs. Foist ran to his assistance and called to her son Commodore, who lived nearby. He assisted in carrying his father to a bed, where he breathed only a few times and expired.
Mrs. Foist was born in Ohio April 29, 1830, but located at Reddington with his parents when quite small, where he continued to reside until his death.
He is survived by his wife and seven children – John, Charles, Commodore and Harrison, of Reddington; James, of Indianapolis; Mrs. John McKinsey, of North Vernon; and Mrs. Albert Otto, of near Seymour.
His son Charles was a member of the jury that was trying the Bohall case, and it was after the jury had retired to decide the case when his father’s death occurred. However, the jury was released Saturday noon in time for him to attend his father's funeral, which occurred that afternoon at two o’clock.
