Surrounded by the comfort and love of her family and faith, Hilda Marie (Flynn) Donahue passed away peacefully Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the Elizabeth Scott Care Center, Maumee.
Born February 25, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, Hilda was the fourth daughter of Irish and German immigrants, and together with her thirteen siblings, she was raised in the depression era.
She graduated from North High School, Columbus, Ohio, in 1942, and volunteered with the USO during WWII. Hilda married and relocated to Toledo, Ohio, devoting herself to raising and nurturing her eight children.
She transformed to an independent modern day woman, and embraced a career with Owens-Illinois as a legal secretary, retiring in 1986 to enjoy golf, ballroom dancing, winters in Vero Beach, Florida, family, and friends. Born with sheer will and determination, she retained her spirit for life, remained a proud and devoted mother, and represented a true lady ahead of her times. She is forever known for her beautiful turquoise blue Irish eyes and smile.
She is survived by her sons Brian (Joyce), Timothy (Elizabeth), Dennis, Terrance (Suzanne), Christopher; daughters Erin (Michael) Jaynes, Mary (Jeffrey) Managhan, and Nancy (Darrin) Haddad; grandsons Christopher, Patrick, Sean, Joseph, granddaughters Andrea, Jennifer, Courtney, Megan, Caitlin, Kelley, Shelby, Margaret, Caroline; great-grandson Brendon; brothers John (Mary) Flynn, Dave (Irene) Flynn, Mike (Casey) Flynn, sisters-in-law Leona Flynn, Lois McCleary, Charlotte Flynn, Suzie Flynn, cousin Tommy (Norma) Eviston, and countless nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward Leo and Emma Marie Flynn, brothers Edward (Mary), Robert (Donna), William, Joseph, Charlie, Bernie (Dot), Patrick, and beloved sisters MaryAnn (Joe) Erion, Elizabeth Flynn and Carol (Dusty) Coats.
Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home at 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. The funeral will begin in the mortuary Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. followed by A Roman catholic funeral mass in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Maumee, Ohio at 10:30 a.m. Private graveside services and burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lockbourne, Ohio Thursday at 12 noon.
