Merle Burns, age 99, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS. She was born to the late Roules and Prudence E. Clowney Fly in Water Valley, MS. Mrs. Burns taught at Sylva Rena School until she married and became a homemaker. She was member of the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church in Yalobusha County, MS.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 2 to 3 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS with the funeral service at 3 pm in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Spraberry presiding. Burial will be at Walker Cemetery in Yalobusha County, MS with the grandsons, Chris Lowry, Phillip Lowry, Ricky Hughes, David Hughes, Mark Hughes, and Tim Hughes serving as pallbearers..
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan Coy Burns; a daughter Prudence Hughes; and two grandsons.
She leaves one daughter, Laura Jo Lowry (Jack) of Water Valley, MS; 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
