BRIDGEWATER — Rev. Byron M. Flory, 83, of Bridgewater, died at noon on Wednesday (May 3, 1972).

A son of the Rev. Daniel C. and Kate (Driver) Flory, he was born on Oct. 22, 1888 on Rt. 3, Staunton. He was graduated from Bridgewater College, was ordained in 1917; received his master's degree from the University of Virginia and was a member of Phi Beta Kawa Fraternity.

On May 30, 1917 he married the former Nora Phillips, and he and his wife served as missionaries to China from 1917 until 1932.
From 1933 until 1935 he served as principal of Crimora School and lived at New Hope. In 1935, he held pastorates in Oakton and Manassas prior to his return to New Hope in 1939 when he served as principal of Harriston School.

From 1942-1951 he was minister of Elk Run Church of the Brethren and also served as principal of Centerville Elementary School. Mr. Flory also held pastorates in Piqua, Ohio, Westernport, Md., Winter Park, Fla., and near Broadway, prior to his retirement in 1957.

He had been making his home in Bridgewater since 1957. Mrs. Flory died on Jan. 4.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Verna Ruth Sanger of Richmond, and Mrs. Mirna Belle
Wolfe of Parkton, Md.; three sons, The Rev. Wendell P. of Waynesboro and the Rev. Daniel C. and the Rev. Byron M. Flory Jr., both of Dayton, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, and one brother, Samuel I. Flory of Fort Defiance.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 Saturday morning from College Street Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Robert L. Sherfy and the Rev. David L. Holl. Burial will be in Middle River Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Lindsey Bridgewater Funeral Home where friends may call. The body will be taken to the church to remain for an hour prior to the services, relatives will meet in the church parlor at 9:45 Saturday morning to receive friends until the hour of the services.

Pallbearers, who are grandsons, will be Theodore, Kevin Daniel III and Phil Flory, Richard Sanger, and Paul, Luke and James Wolfe.
