Willetta Eugenia Flinn was the youngest of five known children of William Eugenio Flinn (1817-1896) and Sarah Emily (went by Emily) Stevenson Flinn (1814-1897), who married 09 Aug 1838 in Missouri (probably Wayne County). Their first four children were born in Missouri and in 1854 the family moved to near Paris, Lamar County, Texas. Their fifth and final child, Willetta was born there.
In 1860 they headed a wagon train going to El Monte, California. They lived in the El Monte area until 1864 when they moved to San Diego County, California where they spent the remainder of their lives except for periods from 1910 to 1923 when they lived on a ranch in Baja California, Mexico.
Willetta married Robert Harrison Benton (1858-1939) on 25 Oct 1882 at El Cajon, San Diego County, California. The family were ranchers in the San Diego County area. Willetta and Robert were the parents of six children:
1. Ralph Stalmaker Benton (1883-1960)
2. Mary Elaine Benton Salisbury (1885-1975)
3. Robert Flinn Benton (1887-1888)
4. Royal Flinn Benton (1889-1959)
5. Flora Flinn Benton Rice (1891-1971)
6. Robert Harrison Benton Jr. (1895-1962)
