Lona Faye Ball, 76, of Davenport, died Friday, March 25, 2011 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy.
Born in Buchanan County, February 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Virgie Mary Hess Fletcher.
She was a member of the Fletcher's Ridge Primitive Baptist Church where she enjoyed being around her Christian friends and loved gospel singing. She was a former employee of the Food City Floral and Gift Department and of the Davenport Rescue Squad. She was an avid gardener, and especially loved working with her flowers. She loved quilting and embroidering. She leaves behind a host of friends and everyone that knew her loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Russell Ball; three brothers, James Fletcher, Bobby Fletcher and Berkley Fletcher; one sister, Ola Gaye Fletcher; paternal grandparents, Troy and Rosa McFadden Fletcher; and maternal grandparents, Elihue and Bertha Nuckles Hess.
She is survived by six sisters, Barbara Hale and husband, Clayton, of Rowe, Gaye Cox and husband, Alvin, of Vansant, Christine Presley and husband, Jearald, of Davenport, Shelvia Jean Stacy and husband, Ken, of Abingdon, Mildred Evans and husband, Robert, of Aberdeen, MD, and Diane Stiltner of Meadowview, VA; three brothers, Monroe Fletcher and wife, Beulah, of Vansant, Delmer Fletcher and wife, Sue, of Abingdon, and Larry Fletcher and wife, Jean, of Marion.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Keen Mountain, with Elders James Ball, Jeff Dotson, Denver Barton, Edward Tiller and Shawn Dotson officiating. Burial followed in the Hess Cemetery on Fletcher's Ridge, Vansant.
Pallbearers were Randy Fletcher, Steve Fletcher, Greg Cook, Ricky Stacy, Junior Fletcher, Dennis Fletcher, Sherman Fletcher, Jerry Presley, Scottie Cox, Joe Compton, Shannon Compton, Travis Fletcher and Chris Fletcher.
Honorary pallbearers were Vernal Boyd, Maxine Jones, Donnie Ball, Frankie Ball, Keith Boyd, Lola Crouse, Sue Wassum and the Nursing Staff and Care-Givers at Heritage Hall, Grundy.
