Marian Dickens Fleming

Our mother Marian Dickens Fleming left us to join our father Ray Dickens at 11:47 am August 16th 2018.

Marian was born August 5th, 1939 in Little Rock, Arkansas where she attended St Mary’s School and then Mayflower High School. She is preceded by our dad Ray Dickens, her high school sweetheart. Also by her second husband David Fleming, as well as her parents Jacob and Jenny Hausen.

She is survived by her children, Kathy, David, Allan and Angela, as well as her 3 grandchildren, Katrina Smith, David Dickens Jr, and Valerie Dickens and 9 great grandchildren. Marian is also survived by three sisters, Ann Croft, Elizabeth (Libby) Wilson and Ellen Hartje, as well as three brothers Mike, Joseph and Gene Hausen. Gone ahead of her are sisters Barbara Hatch and Judy Hausen. Marian leaves a great many friends, some of whom she had played pinochle with every month for nearly 50 years, and her work friends from J. C. Penney.

Marian and her family moved to Livermore from Merced in 1965 and in the late 60s she went to work at the Pet Palace on First Street where she learned to groom dogs from Lucille England who became a long time friend. She then moved on to open her own dog grooming shop called Bubbles and Bows on Railroad Ave in the early 70s.

In 1975 they decided to move back to Arkansas spending several years there, allowing their children to get to know their extended family of Dickens cousins and Hausen grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins enjoying horse shows and riding, fish fry’s and high school football.

Returning to Livermore in 1978, Marian opened a new dog grooming shop in the old city jail calling it The Delinquent Dog. After a number of years she got out of the dog grooming business and went to work for J.C. Penney’s when it was on Second Street after her love Ray passed.

In the early 90s Marian moved to Rohnert Park with her second husband David Fleming and began a career in property management. Upon retiring in 2006 they returned to Livermore settling in the house on East Ave. Marian loved Livermore and always returned to it where she enjoyed the company of long time friends she with playing pinochle with once a month, and with her Penney’s friends for Friday morning breakfast.

Marian enjoyed a long life until it was finally time for her to join her first and always love Ray Dickens. A small ceremony will be held at Roselawn Cemetery at a future date.
