Frances Josephine ("Fran") Fitzgerald Driscoll, of Pasadena, California, died October 13, 2011.
Fran was born in Torrington, Connecticut on March 3, 1917, the third child of P.J. and Mary Kelly Fitzgerald.
She was educated at Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford, graduating in 1934, and Trinity College in Washington, DC. At Trinity, Fran received the coveted "T" Award and graduated with honors in 1938.
During World War II, Fran was an Administrative Assistant at the Fitzgerald Manufacturing Company in Torrington; the company produced gaskets for Pratt & Whitney, which developed engines for war planes. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer.
She married William Gerald ("Jerry") Driscoll on December 26, 1945 in Torrington. They traveled cross-country on their honeymoon, with Southern California as the final destination—which then became their home for the rest of their lives.
Fran and Jerry raised five children in Arcadia. Fran was active in many organizations throughout the years, including the Assistance League of Arcadia, the American Association of University Women, and the parents' associations at St. Rita's, Alverno Heights Academy, and LaSalle High School. After Jerry's death in 1981, Fran assumed the position of Vice President/Treasurer at Jerry's Los Angeles business, TSI.
In addition to Jerry, Fran was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Eileen Wall, Agnes ("Dot") Fitzgerald, Jane Fitzgerald, Chris Droney, and Paul Fitzgerald; her son Bill Driscoll; her grandson Brian Driscoll; and her son-in-law Bill Goodwin. Fran is survived by four children: Jane Driscoll, Evanston, IL; Laura Goodwin, Boulder, CO; Ellen Driscoll, Pasadena, CA; and John (Kathy) Driscoll, Sierra Madre, CA. She is also survived by her sister Connie Wilcox, her daughter-in-law Ludie Driscoll, and four grandchildren: Kelley (Rob) Driscoll Terrazas, Matthew Goodwin, and Patrick and Jack Driscoll.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church (1501 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena), followed by a reception and lunch at San Gabriel County Club (350 East Hermosa Drive, San Gabriel).
A private interment will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Sierra Madre Cemetery.
Fran loved California, the ocean, gardening, poetry, traveling, and her many friends in Arcadia, Sierra Madre, and Pasadena; but, most of all, she loved her family. We will greatly miss her love, wisdom, kindness, good humor, and strength. May the road rise up to meet you, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
