Ronald Louis Fisher, 76, of Chillicothe passed away at 4:09 a.m. at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill., on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.
He was born March 3, 1935, in Dixon, Ill., to Harold and Mary Ellen (Needham) Fisher. He married Beverly Gedye on Oct. 5, 1956, in Ottawa, Ill.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Beverly; and his children, Patti (Butch) Lewis, Lance (Robin) Fisher, Ronda (Chip) Cook, Darcy (Mike) Horn, Vicky (Russ) Garey and Adam Fisher. He was a grandpa to 12 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Richard (Donna) Fisher; and four sisters, Connie (Jerry) Eick, Jeannie (Red) Woodward, Carol Thomas and Donna Mae Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ronald joined the Air Force in 1952 and fought in the Korean War.
He worked for Illinois Valley Glass for 20 years. The past 15 years he worked at Galena Road Gravel in Chillicothe.
Ronald was a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge 222 and the Painters Local Union 157.
He was a strong member of the community by volunteering over 20 years of service to the JFL and youth programs in Chillicothe and Rome. He also volunteered his services to the Illinois Valley Central High School football program.
He loved his life, wife, family, friends, Chicago Cubs and was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan.
Ronald will be deeply missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love him.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service at 5 p.m. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Chris Genders will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Private family inurnment will be held in the city of Chillicothe Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rescue 33.
