Death: Feb. 16, 2005

Wenatchee World - Feb 18, 2005

Bernice L. Fischer, 92, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grand Mother and a dear friend to many, assed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 16, 2005, in East Wenatchee, where she had resided the past 2 years. She was born near Wymore, NE to John and Tilly (Soeken) Goes on October 27, 1912.

She attended a country school in Gage Co., NE where she either walked or rode a horse several miles each day to get there. She later graduated from Wymore High School. On July 25, 1934, she married James (Jim) Fischer at Beatrice, NE. On their honeymoon, they came to Washington to visit Jim's brother, Arthur (Nettie) Fischer, where Jim soon found work and later that year they moved to Monitor. They purchased their first orchard in 1954, which they operated until retiring in 1991. Bernice retired as a fruit packer from Blue Star Growers where she worked for 30 years.

Bernice was a member of the Monitor United Methodist Church, the Sewing Club, Moniteor Homemakers, and the Cashmere Museum. She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the piano, making pies with the Pie Ladies for the Cashmere Convalescent Center and attending weekly Bible Studies. If you ever met Bernice, you had a friend for life. She had many long time friends and loved to host people in her home.

The family would like to thank Hospice and Columbia View Terrace Adult Family Home for their loving care.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharlene Strutzel of Monitor; granddaughter, Debra DeMartin of Chelan; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Danielle DeMartin of Pullman; sister, Elsie Kleman of Lincoln, NE and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, February 19, 2005, in the Monitor United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike O'Neal officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the Monitor Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 293, Monitor, WA 98836. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Braun Funeral Home
