Norman Alfred Finnestad the son of Lars M. and Dorothy (Jacobson) Finnestad was born December 15, 1902, in Fenton, Iowa and departed this life on Wednesday, May 24,1995, at the Palo alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 9 days.
He received his education in the Center Country School in rural Fenton.
Norman was born, lived and farmed all his life on a farm four miles west of Fenton. On March 29, 1929, he was united in marriage to Esther Christian in Ruthven, Iowa. After his marriage, the couple had four children, Joan, twins, Delores and Duane and Marilyn. On September 13, 1937, a car accident claimed the life of Esther and twin son, Duane. On September 13, 1945, he was united in marriage to Esther Geitzenauer in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple had a daughter, Joyce who died in infancy and a son, Craig. Norman farmed until retiring in 1967, the couple moved into Fenton in 1990.
He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and he served as a director for the Center School. He was also a member of the Palo Alto County Farm Bureau.
Mr Finnestad is survived by his wife, Esther of Fenton; three daughters, Joan Mueller and her husband, Ferdi of Northport, Florida; Delores Boettcher and her husband, Wayne of rural Fenton; Marilyn Neary and her husband, Pat of Kingsland, Texas; one son, Craig Finnestad of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; nine grandchildren; twenty great grand children; sister, Blanche Sjostrom of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and also by any relatives and friends. He has been preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Esther, son Duane, daughter, Joyce, grandson, Robbi Boettcher, five brothers, Morris, John, Lloyd, Silas and Amos, four sisters, Bertha Bergeson, Lula Knutson, Aleda LeFevre and Duelia Cody.
