Daughter of Sarah Gordon and John Tate Finley; never married.

Grew up at the old Gordon house-Oakland and attended Kirkwood Seminary at Lenoir. She was the first teacher at the Finley school opened in 1890. Active at the NW Presbyterian church, UDC, and the WCTU.

During Stoneman's Union Cavalry raid through the area April, 1865 she saved some of the family's food by placing it under loose floor planks, spreading a rug over it and played with her dolls on the rug while the soldiers searched her house missing the food.
