Denver Howard Fike was born May 18, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama to Mr. William Denver Fike and Mrs. Lucille Howard Fike. He died at his home in Caruthersville, Missouri on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Age 79 years and 29 days.
Howard moved to Caruthersville at the age of 10 with his parents to continue the family business, H.S. Smith Funeral Home. He attended the Caruthersville School System graduating with the Class of 1951. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and then the University of Missouri, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was 6 hours short from graduating with a degree in English.
On June 26, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville, Howard was united in marriage to the love of his life Mabel Jane (Boots) Bader. They had 4 children.
Howard farmed for many years and also ran a feed yard. After leaving farming and the feed yard, he returned to the funeral home to help his mother.
Howard had a passion for his God, his family, farming, duck hunting, for the people of Olanchita, Honduras, and the people of Little River, New Mexico, whom he met on his many mission trips to both of these places, and many other people who he met everyday that needed help or encouragement.
Howard was a very active and loved member of the Tucker Street Church.
Howard is survived by: his Wife, Boots Fike, Caruthersville; 3 children, Jane Fike, Caruthersville, Missouri, John Fike, Jackson, Mississippi, Sue Maners and her husband P.G. Maners of Caruthersville, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Parker & Jane Clare Maners, Rivers, Elizabeth, Ellen and George B. Fike. Other relatives and many, many other friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denver Fike and his son, Bader Fike.
