November 20, 1936 – April 22, 2011
Laquita Joy Bander, was born in Lubbock, TX., to Lorena B. Fields and George W. Fields. She was a very adored, only child. As a young woman, she was the winner of the Miss Abilene Texas Beauty Pageant, in 1953.
Laquita began her career in the oil and gas field, as an administrative assistant, in Abilene, TX. She married Joe H. Bander, on December 26, 1976, in Denver, CO. They moved to Grand Junction, CO., in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband, Joe.
Laquita volunteered for the March of Dimes, and was an avid supporter and volunteer for Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado. She had an unbridled passion for cats, hats, gardening, flower arranging and interior design. She was witty and playful. She made people laugh.
Her most passionate career path was being Mrs. Joe Bander, wife and homemaker. She was 74 years old when she decided to take her leave. She had faced three major pulmonary illnesses and had fought brilliantly. We are comforted in knowing she is with the love of her life, and is no longer in pain. We will miss her.
Laquita was also known as Grammy Q and Queebie. She is survived by her children: Kelly King, Robin King, Janie Williams, Nancy Bander; and her grandchildren: Kendall Laudenschlager, Kyle Williams, and Sara Lee Williams. We cannot forget her warm and lovable cat companion, Kiwi.
The Memorial service for Laquita, will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at 4:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Road, in Grand Junction.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to one of the following charities: Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B N. 12th St, Grand Junction, 81506, Community Hospital, 2021 N.12th St, Grand Junction, 81501, Roice-Hurst Humane Society, 3320 D 1/2 Road, Clifton, CO., 81520 or the charity of your choice.
