FAY FIELDS BLANKENSHIP, 83 years of age, of Grundy, VA passed away Saturday, June 24, 2006, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, VA following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Gracie McClanahan Fields. She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County and a member of Grundy Church of Christ where she was active, working in the Nursery, the Butterfly Ladies Group, and the Choir, until her illness prevented her participation.

Fay and her twin sister Elsie graduated from Mountain Mission School Class of May 1941. During the World War II years Fay and her Dad operated a General Merchandise Store at the Mouth of Lynn Camp Creek, Artia, Virginia. She married Virgil Blankenship in 1947 and became a homemaker except for one year teaching at the Lynn Camp Elementary School. She was an avid gardener.

She and her sister Edith Yuhasz have shared a home for many years, and her kind and gentle nature will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Blankenship was preceded in death by her husband: Virgil R. Blankenship April 9, 1966.

Blankenship & Husband Chris Dykes, Bristol, VA, 4-Sisters: Edith Yuhasz, Grundy, VA, Opal Belcher, Ft. Myers, FL, Ruby Cline, Brevard, NC, Elsie Cline, Lynchburg, VA, 1-Sister-in-Law: Fern Fields, Abingdon, VA, 2-Nieces: Carolyn Yuhasz Lilley, Decatur, GA, Christine Cline Payne, Concord, NC, 5-Nephews: David Yuhasz, Key Largo, FL, George Cline, Tampa, FL, Larry Cline, Lynchburg, VA, Craig Belcher, Plantation Key, FL, Steven Belcher, Fort Myers, FL.

She was preceded in death by 1-Brother: Dorse Fields

Funeral Services for FAY FIELDS BLANKENSHIP will be conducted Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Michael Trent and Evg. Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening (today) at 6:00 P.M. with Services Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be: Ryan Mullins, David Yuhasz, Greg Raleigh, Travis Raleigh, Chris Dykes, Herb Fields, Curtis R. Mullins and Larry Cline.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. James M. Swiney, Ricky Lee, Troy Viers, Jay Raleigh, Otis Elswick, Junior Jackson, Claude Ratliff, Tex Dales, Rusty Owens, Dr. J. G. Patel, and the Elders and Deacons of Grundy Church of Christ.
