Vera Mae Askew, 75, of 696 Cherry St., died Sunday at the Pontiac Nursing Home, Oswego where she had been a patient since April.
Mrs. Askew was a life resident of Phoenix. She was a machine operator for the Phoenix Paper Mill for eight years and later worked at the E-cono Laundromat, Phoenix and the C-Line Laundromat, Baldwinsville.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church. She had been a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 5540 and Ladies Auxiliary of the Phoenix Fire Department.
Her son, Melvin F. Aldrich, died in 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Luella "Penny" Decker of Fulton; five stepsons; four stepdaughters; six brothers, George Fields of Sterling, James, Gary and Willis Fields, all of Phoenix, Paul Fields of Mexico, and Chuck Fields of New Orleans; two sisters, Elaine Wells and Leona Brothers, both of Phoenix; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, the Rev. Donald Turk officiating. Burial will be later.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 919 Main St.

Vera Waldron, 696 Cherry St., Phoenix, and Lyle M. Askew, RD1 Box 261, Phoenix, were married in Phoenix First Baptist Church at a 7 p.m. candlelight service. Rev. Dean Bult officiated at the ceremony.
The bride was given to marriage by her 87-year old father, Earl Fields, 704 Bridge St., Phoenix.
Matron of Honor was Mrs. Florence Horton, sister of the bridegroom. Bridesmaid was Mrs. Luella (Penny) Covell, daughter of the bride.
Best man was Amos Horton, brother-in-law of the bridesgroom. Usher was Melvin Aldrich, son of the bride.
