Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth A. Besaw, 96, are being held this afternoon at 2pm at the Sprague Funeral Home, Rev. Stanley E. Brown, pastor, United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in East Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Besaw, widow of James A. Besaw, formerly of Island Branch Road, died Monday at 9:10am in the Kinney Nursing Home where she had been a patient since August 1971.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Harriet) Stone, Mrs. Frederick (Mary) Edwards and Mrs. Lela Tharrett all of Gouverneur; eight sons, Harry, Clarence, and Herbert Gouverneur; and Charles, VIncent, Keith and Glen, all of Fowler, and Lyle, Natural Dam; 47 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Born Dec 21, 1877 in the town of Gouverneur, daughter of Charles and Mary Simmonds Fields, she attended local schools and was married to James A. Besaw July 5, 1900 at Gouverneur. The couple operated farms at Fowler and on the Island Branch Road until Mr. Besaw's death in Feb 1963.
She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers.
