Obituary: Cedar Lake Journal - Tuesday, April 16, 1996 Retha Leota (Fields) Bevins Retha Leota (nee Fields) Bevins, age 86, of LaPorte, formerly of Cedar Lake, passed away Tues., April 9, 1996, at Fountain View Nursing Home in LaPorte. Retha Fields was born in Bear Holler, Scott County, Va. She lived in Cedar Lake for 27 years, and was a member of the North Dunedin Baptist Church in Dunedin, Fla. She worked at the Willowdale Nursing Home in Crown Point from 1958 to 1973, and at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Crown Point from 1973 to 1975.
She is survived by: two daughters, Lois (Chuck) Endris of Corydon and Darlene (Everett) Endris of Cedar Lake; three sons, James (Nancy) Bevins of LaPorte, Ernest Bevins of Clearwater, Fla., and Gene (Jeanie) Bevins of Cedar Lake; two brothers, Ernest Fields of Morristown, N.J., and Ronsia Fields of Redwood City, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Garfield Bevins; one son, Dwight David; her parents, Floyd and Virginia Fields; two brothers, Alden and Leston, and one sister, Myrtle. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April. 12 at Eller Brady Funeral Home in Cedar Lake, with Rev. Kevin Gardner officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. April. 11 at the funeral home.
