Claudia "Cl" and her NPS husband, Maynard Robards Fields, were among the earlier residents of "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona area, in nearby Wahweap, Arizona and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where Maynard served the National Park Service as Wahweap District Ranger from 1966-1968.

Maynard and Claudia were married on September 11, 1938, Tacoma, Washington. Maynard was 83 and Claudia was 76 when they passed away within 20 months of each other. At the time of Claudia's death, they had been married for 54 years.

Maynard and Claudia had three children, all still living in the Seattle, WA

Claudia was the daughter of Claude A. Miller and Anna "Annie" G. (Pratt) Miller.

She was the third of four children. Her older brother and sister were Clell William Miller (1913-2002) and Evelyn Clare Miller [Hopkins] Keys (1915-2004). Her younger sister was Afton Adell Miller (1918-2005).

Claudia attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, as did her older brother and sister, Clell & Evelyn.

Claudia was very capable and people-oriented. She worked during much of Maynard's time with the National Park Service.

Maynard and Claudia loved scenic beauty and nature, and thoroughly enjoyed Maynard's career in the NPS, from rain forest to desert! While living near Page, Maynard and Claudia were fascinated by visiting nearby Hopi and Navajo villages with Hopi and Navajo friends they befriended.

Claudia's ashes were spread with Maynard's ashes at Bogachiel Peak in Olympic National Park, where Maynard was a fire lookout during the summers of 1936-1938, when Maynard was courting her. (Olympic NP was established in 1938.) Her ashes were also spread in the Pacific Ocean at a place that is in Olympic NP and in London, England.
