Charlotte Texas Smith Fields, beloved Christian mother, went to be with God on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, she was 83 years old.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Allen D. Fields; her parents, Hobart M. and Pearl Smith; two sisters, Dorothy Smith Shaw and Alma Smith; two brothers, Luther Smith and McKinley P. Smith; two nephews, Stephen Smith and Kevin Smith; and one niece, Norma Smith.
Charlotte was the valedictorian of her senior class and, after marrying, raised her family in Saltville, where she eventually became a substitute teacher for the Smyth County School Board. She was a faithful and lifelong member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church and served God all of her life. She was a great believer in prayer and prayed daily for those she loved, as well as for those she did not know.
