14 JUL 2022 SAC to remove existing LOD. Change DOD to 24 OCT 1844.~Husb of Mary Ann 'Polly' Sexton; F/o Delilah; Ruth; Martha; Richard, III; Geo. Washington; Jennie; Ezekiel, Jr ; & Mary Fields, Jr.: Fields. Son of Chief Richard Fields Jr & Jennie Buffington; born in Cherokee Nation
-----
Headstone dates (1789-1839) are historically incorrect: "Ezekiel Fields perished in a prairie fire (the last week of October)" [The Cherokee Advocate, issue of Nov. 2, 1844.] Also killed then were his brother John Jack, and a "son". Ezekiel's son saved himself by running through the flames. The "son" who perished is presumed to be John's, named John R., b. 1838-1844. (Mother, Elizabeth Wells). [Note: Ezekiel's marker "age 50 years", may be accurate]
