ELIOT, Maine — Marion M. Dixon, 94, of 19 Beech Road, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, after a short illness.
Born in Eliot on Dec. 26, 1916, she was the daughter of Percy L. Fernald and Betsy (Cole) Fernald. She attended Eliot schools and graduated with the Class of 1935.
She was the wife of the late George M. Dixon, and together they owned and operated Dixon's Poultry Farm in Eliot for many years until 1966. Later, she retired from Rich's Department Store in Portsmouth in 1980.
Marion was a past member of the Eliot Grange and a past member of the Rebekahs, being a Past Noble Grand.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Lawrence Fernald of Eliot, Leroy Fernald of Barrington, N.H.; sisters, Mary Cheney of Portsmouth, N.H., and Carrie Hooper of Eliot.
Marion is survived by one brother, Clayton Fernald of Saco, Maine, and her children, Marguerite J. Cormier of St. Petersburg, Fla., Rita L. Davis of Eliot, Robert E. Dixon of South Berwick, and Richard K. Dixon of Eliot; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, Feb. 3, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St, Portsmouth, NH. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot, in the spring.
