The funeral service for Mrs. Ethel Dee Bennett, mother of Quitman County Probate Judge Robert Bennett, was held on Wednesday, December 31st, at Calvary Baptist Church with burial following in Memory Garden Cemetery in Eufaula, Alabama. The Reverend Mr. Jeff Hines officiated, with Chapman Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Bennett died on Monday, December 29th, at Columbus Hospice Home in Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. Bennett was born on May 10, 1913, in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, to Robert Lee Fendley and Allie Shirley Fendley. Her husband, Ike Bennett, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bennett had been active in the Calvary Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Eufaula Genealogy Society. For the past three years, she had made her home in Eufaula with her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jackie Bennett.
Survivors to cherish the memory of a loving woman include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Burt Murrie, Eufaula; Frances and Thomas Modling, Phenix City, AL; Georgia and Jerry Bennett, Dalton, GA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Rosemary Bennett, Georgetown, and Tommy and Jackie Bennett, Eufaula. Mrs. Bennett is, also, survived by one brother, Jim Fendley, Georgetown; three sisters, Lois Turner, Smiths, AL, Jean Hobbs, Daleville, AL, and Mabel Baggett, Pensacola, FL. She, also, is survived by six grandsons, Taylor Bennett, Jason Bennett, Ashley Modling, Justin Bennett, Adam Bennett, and Clayton Bennett; one granddaughter, Kayce Bennett; and seven great-grandchildren. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
