Dow Fender, 94, of Nampa, joined his wife and little daughter in heaven Saturday evening, September 1, 2012.

Dow was born August 21, 1918 in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, the third of eight children of Ira Lester and Ophilia Pocahontas Goddard Fender.

He married Gladys Henrietta Crain in Hanford, California on May 16, 1938. They had two daughters, Gloria Maxine Fender, who drowned at the age of two and Patricia Mae Fender Dunn. They later divorced. He then married Viola Gladys Holcomb on September 5, 1953. They had a son Robert Dow Fender. The marriage later ended in divorce. Dow then married his first wife again on April 9, 1977 and they were together until her death on May 12, 2011.

Dow served two stints in the Navy during and after WWII, in the Aleutians, The Philippines and China.

He is survived by his daughter Patricia M. (Gene) Dunn, of Nampa; two grandsons, Daniel Eugene Dunn, of Cheney, WA, and David Douglas (Poom) Dunn, of Nampa; three great-grandchildren: Mathee Songla, Palm Songla and Ellen Metta Dunn, all of Nampa; brother, Dee (Peggy) Fender, of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

Dow worked for the State of Oregon in different capacities from May 1954 until his retirement in 1976: The Oregon State Forestry Dept. in Salem and Prineville, Oregon State Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon State Motor Vehicle Dept. in Salem and Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.

Dow was a deacon in The Church of God of Prophecy where he was a member for many years. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid gardener and well known for his beautiful gardens every year.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at The Church of God of Prophecy, 11535 Smith Ave. Nampa.

Arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 467-7300.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of God of Prophecy building fund, c/o Betty Holt, 7716 Bridgeport, Nampa, ID 83687.
