Funeral services for Mrs. J. H. Astles of Nashville were held at the Fender Cemetery, Wednesday morning, February 16, with the Reverends Felton Gaskins and Ray Hendley conducted the last rites. Interment was in Fender Cemetery.
Mrs. Astles was born and raised in Clinch County. She Married John Hustus Astles of Canada, in 1900 and lived most of her life in Berrien County.
She died suddenly Sunday, February 13th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. C. O'Steen. She had been sick for a week. She was a member of the Methodist Church and has a host of friends and relatives to mourn her death.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons, James Astles of Stockton and Thomas Albert Astles of Miller, Missouri; six daughters, Mrs. Mattie O'Steen, Mrs. Ona Chaplin, and Mrs. Ora Lee Exum all of Nashville, Mrs. S. G. May of Macon, Mrs. Louise Burns of Miami, Florida and Mrs. Nellie Blackmon of Valdosta, 22 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A mixed choir sang "Never Grow Old" and "Precious Memories".
Pallbearers were Carl Hand, John Garrett, Lonnie Swain, Early Collins, Mark Sutton and Barney Rowland.
Mrs. Astles was 63 years old and her good deeds and tender smile will always be remembered by her family and friends alike.
