Mary Behne, Oldest Living Native Dies
Mrs. Mary Fell Behne, the oldest living person born in Waseca County, died early Sunday morning at her home at 813 North State street. She had reached the age of 95 years, seven months and 27 days. Cause of death was complications of old age.
Mrs. Behne received a telegram on congratulations on her 95th birthday last March from President Eisenhower.
Mary Fell was born March 27, 1863, in a log cabin in Iosco township. She was the daughter of the late John and Fredericka Schultz Fell. She was confirmed May 18, 1880, and on April 5, 1906, was married to Henry Behne, now deceased. He passed away January 31, 1936. Before his death, they lived on a farm in Blooming Grove township, moving to Waseca in 1916. Mrs. Behne and her husband raised Charley Dilsnider, and he has made his home with her for many years.
Surviving her are a host of nieces and nephews. She was the last of a family of four boys and two girls.
Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon, 1 p. m. at the Pfaff Chapel, with the Rev. Burton Passer of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was in Woodville cemetery beside the body of her husband.
Pallbearers were John Scholer, Clarence Wolter, and John, Ralph, Fred and Alfred Fell.
