Susan Tarman was born in Virginia between 1826 and 1828. She was the daughter of Benjamin Tarman (1787-1862) and Ann Biggs (1790-). She married John Wesley Fell in Muskingum County Ohio on Oct. 25, 1849. Officiating David Sherrard, D.M.
He was the son of Joseph Fell and Ann Johnston (1).

Their children were Rachel Fell, Charles S. Fell, Joseph Oscar Fell, Thomas B. Fell, William H. Fell, Anna Fell, James F. Fell, and Elizabeth Fell.

In 1850, they were living in Licking Township in Muskingum Co. Ohio near John Fell's mother and his brothers and sisters.

By 1860, they had relocated to Woodford Co. Illinois and were living near Susan's brothers James Alexander Tarman and John Thomas Tarman.

In July 1861, her husband John Fell enlisted in Company D of the 8th Regiment of the Missouri Volunteers to fight in the Civil War. He was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh for which he was later awarded a Civil War pension.

By 1870 the Fell family was living in Nevada City, Vernon Co., Missouri near the Kansas border.

About 1872, the Fell family had located to Chautauqua County, Kansas.

In 1880 United States Census and 1885 Kansas State Census they were living in Silver Creek Township in Cowley County Kansas.

In the 1898 Civil War Pension questionnaire, John Fell listed Susan Fell's maiden name as Susan Tarman and that they were married in Oct. 1849 in Muskingum Co., Ohio.

The life of Susan Fell ended under tragic circumstances.
In The Burden Eagle on Dec 2, 1893, the following news was reported:
"Mrs. J. W. Fell who has been insane for some time was taken before the probate judge H. T. Alberts of Winfield Tuesday. " (3)
Additional court cases in 1894 and 1895 concerning Susan Fell were reported. (4) (5)
On May 19, 1898, the Burden Eagle reported that Mrs. Susan Fell has died at Osawatomie, Kansas on May 16, 1898 after an illness of 10 years. (6)
She is buried in an unmarked grave at the Osawatomie State Hospital Burial Ground in Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas, USA.
