Bessie Louise Walton was born May 21, 1923 in rural Miami, OK to Roy and Fannie (Brown) Fell and passed from this life on Friday, April 20, 2012 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 88. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and had attended Four Mile grade school and graduated from Commerce, OK high school. She married Ike Walton in 1941. They lived in rural Miami until 1974 then they moved to Independence, KS. Louise moved to Coffeyville in 1976 after Mr. Walton was killed in an accident the previous year. In recent months Louise lived in Tulsa, OK.
Louise worked at Gibsons for two years and retired from Nu-Way Foodliner in 1988 where she worked 11 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, belonged to the Friendship Club, AARP, Heritage Club and was a local Red Cross volunteer for 14 years.
She is survived by one son, Buck Walton and wife, Barbara of Tulsa, OK; two granddaughters, Tara Walton of Dana Point, CA and Sammye Walton Suleman and husband, Abe of Tanzania; grandchildren, Tumaini Walton and Hussein Suleman. She was preceded in death by an infant son; husband, parents; one brother and two sisters.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, April 23rd, 2012 at the Miami Tribal Long House (Ethel Miller Moore Cultural Center) 4 miles west of Commerce, OK on E 60 Rd. Memorials to the Coffeyville community College Foundation, 11th & Willow or the Pioneer KS Chapter of the American Red Cross, 128 W. 8th, Coffeyville, KS 67337 are welcome.
