Marie-Claire (Favreau) Belisle, 83, of Keystone Woods, 936 Grayson Drive, Springfield, MA, passed away on Sunday (January 24, 2010) following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 7, 1926 in Roxton Falls, Province of Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Albert and Maria (Larouche) Favreau.
Marie-Claire was a graduate of St. Hyacynthe Normal School in Quebec, where she earned her teaching degree.
She immigrated to the U.S. in 1957, where she settled in Springfield. Marie-Claire's years of employment included teaching, working as a seamstress, and working at several of Big Y and Jumbo Food Stores.
She was a communicant and Christmas Bazaar volunteer of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield. Marie-Claire was a former communicant, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and Ladies of St. Anne member of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield. She also was a member and past secretary of the Brightwood Branch of the Springfield Golden Agers.
In addition to her parents, Marie-Claire was predeceased by her husband, Gerard L. Belisle, who died in 1993. She is survived by her sons, Jean- Guy Belisle and his wife Ellie of Hampden, Pierre Albert Belisle and his wife Sandra of Lebanon, CT, and Donald James Belisle and his wife Jean Elizabeth of Westfield; her daughter, Francoise Marie-Claire Carabetta and her husband James of Chicopee; and her grandchildren, Michelle Middleton and her husband Mark, Marc, Michael, Lauren, Erin, Elizabeth and Evan Belisle, and Kimberly, David and Kristen Carabetta. She also leaves her sister, Anna Parent of Canada and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, both in Springfield, with Rites of Committal and burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery on Hampden Street in Chicopee.
